TAOUS: BIOGRAPHY

 Taous Claire Khazem has worked as a theatre artist in Algeria, Morocco, Jordan, Egypt, France and Cameroon in addition to her work in the Twin Cities (Minnesota). She stars in the hit Algerian sit-com Sultan Achour 10 as the ex-Queen Maria. Closer to home she has performed with Mixed Blood Theater, The Jungle Theater, Workhaus Collective, Interact Center, Theatre Unbound, Pangea World Theater, Frank Theatre, Savage Umbrella and Off Leash Area and has appeared in numerous local television commercials and print ads. She teaches theatre to youth with Children’s Theatre, Stages Theater, SteppingStone Theatre and is on the COMPAS artist roster. She toured her first one-woman show Tizi Ouzou nationally and internationally.  Her second solo show In Algeria They Know My Name, which was presented in a three play series at Mixed Blood Theatre and produced by New Arab American Theatre Works. Taous has received a Fox Fellowship through TCG, a Jerome Travel/Study Grant, two Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Initiative Grants,  a Many Voices Mentorship at the Playwright’s Center and numerous grants from the French government to create theatre in Algeria. Taous trained at the Jacques Lecoq International Theatre School in Paris, France and holds a BA in theatre and French from Macalester College.
